Seiko Lord Matic | LM 5606-5070 | Automatic Day-Date | Dark Dial | 1970s
Description
The Seiko Lord Matic sits at the top of Seiko's mechanical hierarchy, positioned just below Grand Seiko and King Seiko. Introduced in 1967 and produced through the 1970s, the LM line showcased Seiko's ability to produce refined, finely finished automatic watches at prices that undercut comparable Swiss offerings. Today, these watches are rapidly gaining collector attention.
This reference, the 5606-5070, features the Caliber 5606 automatic movement with day-date complication, hacking seconds, and quick-set functions. The TV-shape brushed steel case is a bold 1970s design statement, wider than it is tall with soft rounded corners. The dark dial shifts between charcoal and deep grey depending on the light, with applied batons and the Seiko LM logo at 6 o'clock.
The integrated day and date at 3 shows both in English abbreviations. Silver dauphine hands cut cleanly across the dark dial, and the Seiko-signed crown is recessed into the case flank. A green croc-embossed leather strap gives the piece a fresh, contemporary look.

Historical Significance
The Seiko Lord Matic line was positioned as a premium automatic range during the period when Seiko was directly challenging Swiss watchmaking on quality and value. The Caliber 5606 movement included advanced features like hacking seconds and quick-set day/date at a time when many Swiss automatics still lacked these conveniences. The TV-shape case reflects the experimental design language of 1970s Japanese watchmaking. Collectors today recognise the Lord Matic as one of the best-value entries into serious vintage Seiko collecting.
A well-preserved Seiko Lord Matic with genuine collector credentials. The Caliber 5606 is one of the finest mid-range automatic movements ever produced, and the TV-shape case is pure 1970s character.
