At Céline’s Fall 2017 runway collection, designed by Phoebe Philo, a series of fluid-drape pieces with voluminous skirts gathered onto knit bandeaus tempered the collection’s sternness. Perhaps the most versatile one in that series was this particular piece in classic black. Cut at mid-thigh, this piece toes the line between top and mini-dress, worn over trousers on both the runway and campaign imagery. A close-fitting bandeau with self-tie spaghetti straps in compact knit viscose closes on the back via a metal clasp. Gathered on the bandeau is an asymmetrically draped body in layers of sheer fluid crepe jersey. The attached armbands in the same knit material feature similarly draped sleeves which end in large buttoned cuffs in double crepe.
