Issued by the Republic of Rwanda in 1974, this 50 centimes commemorative stamp features "Marie et l’Enfant" (Madonna and Child), a Renaissance painting by the Flemish master Gérard David (1460–1523). The artwork depicts the Virgin Mary tenderly holding the Infant Jesus, surrounded by angels in a golden background. At the bottom right, the stamp bears the emblem of “Internaba 1974 – Centenarium UPU”, marking the 100th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union.
