There are hints of the ancient and the contemporary in this remarkable ornamental sculpture. The body of the piece is a broad, perfect disc of marble, its sleek, smooth surface gently patterned with pale natural veining.

At its centre is a much smaller circular opening, echoing the shape of the whole but also carrying suggestions of the ancient devotional objects of sun-worshippers. It is cradled in a semi-circle of brass-finished stainless steel, which extends to the simple stand below.

It is a sculpture, to be marvelled at and pondered, its meaning ultimately no more nor less than its own elegance and beauty.
