I've gathered and sold a fair number of antique horsehair brushes at this point, but this is the first one I've found with a painted wood handle, in a style which I believe would be referred to as grain-painting, executed in yellow and black. I believe it likely dates to the mid-19th century or so, and features a full head of pale bristles peppered with a few black ones, which I think perfectly complements the handle. Really lovely.
There are a few areas of paint loss on the ferrule and lower handle, as documented--overall quite minor for its age I think. Othewise, it is really in terrific condition. 9 1/4" long x 1 7/8" across at ferrule (where bristles attach to handle.)
