Cleistocactus colademononis, often referred to as the “Monkey’s Tail Cactus,” is a highly sought-after trailing cactus species known for its long, pendant stems densely covered in soft, white, hair-like spines. Native to Bolivia, it thrives as an epilithic plant hanging from rocky cliffs. In spring or summer, it produces bright red to deep pink tubular flowers along its stems. Its whimsical appearance and cascading habit make it a popular choice for hanging baskets and vertical displays.

Water Needs:
Low; allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Water more frequently during the active growing season (spring–summer), and sparingly in winter.

Light Requirement:
Bright indirect light to partial sun. Can tolerate full sun if acclimated, but strong midday rays may scorch exposed stems.

Maintenance:
Low; plant in fast-draining cactus soil. Avoid excess humidity and repot only when necessary to maintain trailing form.

Common Names:
Monkey’s Tail Cactus, Hildewintera colademononis

Family:
Cactaceae

Origin:
Bolivia

Cold Tolerance:
Protect from temperatures below 5°C.

Heat Tolerance:
High; well-suited to warm, dry environments.
