This is an early Russian Empire postage stamp denominated at 5 kopeks, printed in a striking deep red-brown shade. The design prominently features the Imperial double-headed eagle, the enduring state emblem of Tsarist Russia, framed within an ornate oval cartouche surrounded by laurel and decorative scrollwork. The Cyrillic inscription at the top reads “Почтовая Марка” (Postage Stamp), while the value “Пять Коп.” (Five Kopeks) is displayed at the base.
Issued in the late 19th century (around 1880s–1890s), these stamps were commonly used for standard domestic correspondence within the Empire. This particular example is imperforate, adding rarity and desirability for specialized collectors of Russian philately. Well-centered copies with full margins are especially prized.
A historically significant issue, it reflects the grandeur of Imperial Russia before the sweeping postal reforms and the transition into the Soviet era.
