This striking 65 Franc stamp from the former French Territory of the Afars and Issas (modern-day Djibouti) was issued in 1975 as part of a beautifully engraved entomological series showcasing the region’s diverse moth and butterfly species. Illustrated by P. Lambert and engraved with fine detail, it depicts Holocerina smilax menieri, a colorful African moth identified by entomologist Rougeot.
Set against an olive-green background with stylized vegetation, the bright yellow-orange moth stands out vividly, emphasizing the natural richness of East Africa. The design reflects the French colonial artistic tradition of combining scientific accuracy with elegant minimalism.
