This is a definitive stamp of the Republic of China originally issued with a face value of $2 featuring Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of modern China. Printed in brown, it shows his portrait within an ornate frame beneath the Nationalist Sun emblem. The stamp bears a surcharge overprint of 30¢ in black characters, applied during a period of currency adjustments and inflation in the 1940s–1950s. Such overprints were widely used to repurpose existing stock and meet postal demand during times of economic instability. Collectors value these issues for their historical significance and numerous surcharge varieties.
