Filipino women have been expected to be silent and to accept the established order in which they find themselves. They are forced to be subservient. To be good, to be an obedient daughter, sister, lover, wife, partner, worker, mother, and a pawn in the game of life. To suffer in silence. To work hard and be a beacon of strength and light of the home. These are the roles in life that society and the media, radio, comics, television, the internet, and movies affirm that buried the primal role women performed for the community before the advent of colonization.

This anthology gathers different voices of women that rouse our spirit and awareness from different epochs, fields of study, and life situations. These are the silenced voices and portraits of women from the babaylan to the ordinary citizens and activists who fight for a better life, justice, and human rights; the OFWs (overseas Filipino workers); the artists; and those who hold the highest office of the land, the president of the Philippines.
