When the project demands speed and precision for floor preparation, RLA TruLevel EconoScreed Rapid delivers. This rapid-hardening, high-performance screed is built for internal and external floors. It creates precise falls and ramps, especially in wet areas. Finish the job faster, with most floor coverings ready for application on the same day. Downtime is significantly reduced, keeping projects on schedule.
Why this product exists
RLA TruLevel EconoScreed Rapid was developed as a premium-grade, pre-blended cementitious solution. It overcomes the common limitations of traditional sand/cement screeds, such as inconsistent mixing, slow drying, and the risk of efflorescence. Its unique formulation ensures rapid hardening, dimensional stability, and superior performance for high-stress and moisture-prone areas. This allows for high strength even at low build thicknesses, excellent water resistance, and reduced efflorescence risk by eliminating on-site batching variability.
The numbers that matter
- Minimum 10mm to 100mm thickness: This wide application range means it handles anything from minor level corrections to significant ramp construction, all in a single pass.
- Compressive strength >65 MPa at 28 days: This high strength ensures durability and resistance to heavy traffic, even in commercial or light industrial settings.
- Flexural strength >10 MPa at 28 days: The impressive flexural strength means this screed resists cracking under load or movement, crucial for long-term floor integrity.
- Tiles in 4-6 hours, resilient/wood in 24 hours: This rapid return-to-service significantly cuts project timelines. It allows for waterproofing membranes or most floor coverings to be installed within hours, not days.
What it's like to use
RLA TruLevel EconoScreed Rapid is a pre-blended, one-pack system, removing the need for on-site sand and cement mixing. Mix one 20kg bag with exactly 1.7 litres of clean water using a forced action, high-shear stirrer at approximately 600 rpm. This ensures a smooth, homogenous consistency. Work quickly; the product has a short working time of 30-60 minutes. Apply with firm pressure using mortar trowel tools to ensure full contact with the substrate, especially when creating falls or filling voids. For precise detailing around waste outlets or penetrations, work in small batches and trim excess after 10 minutes, finishing with a damp steel trowel. Clean tools immediately with water.
Where this product excels
- Priming, detailing systems, and waste outlets: The rapid-setting nature and ability to form precise falls make it ideal for preparing wet areas around drains, penetrations, and waterstop angles before waterproofing.
- Building precise falls: Whether for showers, balconies, or sloped areas, this screed simplifies the creation of consistent gradients, ensuring effective drainage.
- External above-ground areas: Its high strength and excellent water resistance make it suitable for car parks, balconies, and other external areas exposed to weather and traffic.
- Rapid repairs and overlays: Use it to quickly rectify uneven concrete floors or create durable underlayments for various floor coverings, speeding up project completion.
How it fits in a real system
RLA TruLevel EconoScreed Rapid is a core component in wet area and external waterproofing systems, often applied after substrate preparation and priming. For detailing around waste outlets, penetrations, spitters, and waterstop angles, it is commonly specified after the application of a suitable primer, such as Gripset OP primer or RLA Universal Primer. It provides the crucial, durable base and required falls directly beneath the waterproofing membrane, preparing the surface for subsequent tiling or other floor coverings.
Choose this when
- When the job requires a rapid-hardening screed for internal or external floors.
- When you need to build precise falls or ramps, particularly in wet areas like shower bases or balconies.
- When specifying a screed for detailing around waste outlets and penetrations within a waterproofing system.
- When working on car parks, high traffic areas, or external above-ground applications that demand high compressive and flexural strength.
- When project timelines require floor coverings or waterproofing to be applied on the same day.
Don't use this when
- Not for: Applications over timber or metal substrates.
- Not for: Use in immersed environments as an exposed finish.
- Not for: Application on unprimed surfaces. Always prime with RLA Universal Primer (diluted for porous, neat for non-porous) or an equivalent system primer.
- Not for: Hand mixing. Use a forced action mixer for proper consistency and strength development.
