I've learned that Poker, or Card, dominoes were once a thing (I've seen sets ranging from c. 1860 to the present), with rules out there for many variations easy to find. This is not a complete set, but I think the tiles are really gorgeous, and surely one could come up with creative ways to put them to use (or just throw them in a bowl to admire them!) While most sets I've seen were made of bakelite, these I believe are wood; really, they have the feeling of slate. The numbers/letters are carved/ incised, and there is clear film, hard like glass, covering the suits--celluloid I'd guess. And the color of the black and red suits is super saturated, popping all the more against the soft black of the tiles. Yum!
Tiles measure 2" x 1" x 5/16". 43 tiles total. There is some aging to the film covering the suits (amplified by my photo lighting) but no loss, and I personally like the effect. Overall great condition. I would think these date to 1920s or so but am not completely sure.
