I found this and the other milagro I'm listing at an estate sale in Saratoga, NY, where it lived in the collection of a peace corps worker and world traveller. Late 19th/very early 20th century and Italian, I believe, make of what I believe is silver, with a very rich patina, including some lovely blue-green iridescence around head. Milagros/ex votos like this were made as religious folk charms and used as votive offerings, frequently attached to altars, shrines, and sacred objects found in places of worship--some representing specific body parts needing healing, for example, while others like this child more general, perhaps meant to represent a young Jesus, or perhaps a sort of iconic child to be blessed.
6 1/4" t x 2 1/8" w and in good condition, with darkening to the silver as evident, which I have not touched.
