HISTORY
A U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War with the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, would have been part of one of the most heavily engaged units in the division. The "1st Team" landed in Vietnam in 1965 and fought in major campaigns, including the Ia Drang Valley battles, and saw service throughout the war before returning to the United States in 1971. The 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry was particularly active and earned a reputation for its valor in combat. The DUI, or Distinctive Unit Insignia, features a gold color and a horseshoe, representing the Cavalry service and heritage, respectively.
