Yamaha's FS acoustic and electroacoustic guitars are an interesting combination of classic design (based on the FG180 models introduced in 1966) and modern features. These are instruments with a more compact Concert body and semi-massive construction.

The front plate of the FSX830C is made of solid Sitka spruce, while the back plate and sides are made of rosewood. Acoustic performance is elevated to a higher level by the new design of the reduced X ribbing on the front plate, which gives the guitar a stronger, louder response in the lower midrange frequencies. A practical lower body cutaway offers a good match even at higher fretboard positions.

The amplification of the acoustic sound is taken care of by the company's preamp with a three-band equalizer and integrated tuner built into the guitar's back and an SRT piezo pickup. A rosewood fingerboard with twenty frets is glued to the nato neck. Tuning stability is guaranteed by the attachment of strings through the saddle and zero fret of Urea plastic material in the company's Die-Cast tuning machines and rosewood fingerboard. The stylish look of the instrument is accentuated by a cream body binding, a rosette consisting of a pearl ring (Abalone) and black and white lines, and a practical pickguard made of imitation tortoiseshell.
