Established in 1906, the Traffic Squad Benevolent Association of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) is the oldest fraternal organization in the PD. Originally, members were NYPD police officers from the Mounted Unit and Bicycle Squads. In 1920, Fifth Avenue in NYC was the first avenue to receive Traffic Towers in an effort to control traffic. The original towers were deemed too unsightly by the posh citizenry and funds were raised for new, gleaming bronze towers.

The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel was originally located on 34th Street and 5th Avenue, where the Empire State Building stands today. The Waldorf Hotel was built in 1893, by William Waldorf Astor, and was joined by the Astoria Hotel, built in 1897, by his cousin John Jacob Astor IV. Today the Waldorf-Astoria sits proudly on Park Avenue in New York City where it opened in 1931 as the world's tallest and largest hotel. Under new ownership the hotel closed on March 7, 2017 for a major refurbishment. It is planned to re-open in 2020.
