They inhabit campo rupestre, an ecoregion characterized by high alt grasslands, rocky outcrops, and shallow, nutrient poor soil. The species was named after the type locality, the city of Diamantina, and is only known from that area. Due to their bright coloration and small size, they have exploded in popularity within the hobby and are a must have species for many collectors.
