Lovely antique gold cased quizzing glass or quizzer from the mid 19th century on a contemporary gold fill curb chain.

A quizzer was a popular accessory during the Georgian and English Regency period. Usually a single round, oval or oblong lens rimmed in gold, silver or pinchbeck, the loop of the handle swiveled making it easier to lay flat when hung from a chain. Quizzers were fashionable with both men and women of the era. A man would wear his quizzing glass round his neck with a black ribbon and a woman would wear hers on a long chain. Depending on the wearers needs the quizzer was either set with a magnifying lens or a corrective lens made by opticians. This beautiful example has a magnifying glass making it a useful accessory today.

The quizzer measures 7cm. The chain measures 64cm. 

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This quizzer is in great antique condition.
