Graphite Arch Original Oils on Italian linen

This contemporary monochromatic artwork incorporates black, white, and Paynes Grey hues. As the artist explored various strengths of oil paint, they were fascinated by the interplay of light and shadows on diverse surfaces and geometric divisions. Once the paint surface dried, the artist could gently rub it to create a captivating shiny silver effect. This technique is akin to overworking graphite with a grey lead pencil.

The Process

Each original artwork is painted by hand in Tory Burke’s Melbourne studio. Using layered oil techniques, the composition is developed gradually, moving from translucent tones through to deeper, richer layers, creating depth and texture across the surface.
