Ailsa Craig necklace in sterling silver made on the Isle of Arran by Jess MacDonald Brass.
Ailsa Craig, roughly translates to 'Fairy Rock' in Gaelic. It is a small granite island in the outer Firth of Clyde and is a home for huge numbers of gannets and an increasing number of puffins.
The island sits 16km west of mainland Scotland and is made up of a rare microgranite which has has long been quarried to make curling stones.
The island is roughly halfway between Glasgow & Belfast, and was the traditional route for many Irish labourers emigrating to Scotland to seek work, because of this, Ailsa Craig acquired the nickname "Paddy's Milestone".
This piece was inspired after viewing the island The Waverley one summers day.
