Each of these charming Sarraguemines French porcelain crepe, salad, dessert plates tells the story of one of the 102 fables compiled by French poet and writer Jean de La Fountaine during the late 1600's.

Showing the print mark used from the 1930's, each French porcelain plate showcases a unique black transfer printed image with a basket weave rim.

Similar to Aesop's fables, Fountaine collected fables from a wide variety of sources, both Western and Eastern, and adapted them into French free verse. They were issued under the general title of Fables in several volumes from 1668 to 1694 and are considered classics of French literature. These alluring tales are still taught and revered by French children and adults today.
