To commemorate the rich history, Berkeley Chess have produced these stunning Medieval chess pieces based on a 14th-century German set. The reverse side of the king’s throne shows warriors, the queen’s throne ladies in waiting and the bishop’s throne holy men and musicians. The design of the rook has taken inspiration from the beginning of the introduction of the castle into early European chess.

This wonderful set of pieces has been paired with a 45 cm walnut and maple chessboard, created by the experts at Rechapados Ferrer. As with all our wooden boards, this chessboard has been created using real wood veneers precisely cut and hand-inlaid to create a seamless playing surface.
