Original to c.1880, this Victorian cluster ring has the most amazing natural precious coral cabochon at its centre. The word that instantly springs to mind is ethereal. The coral is a delicate blush-pink colour and is rightfully called 'angel skin'. Angel skin is rare and stands apart from the more vivid, intense reds seen in other corals. The coral remains in excellent condition despite its age and displays a dreamy, satin-like lustre that invites the touch, its silky surface almost impossible to resist.
Small rose-cut diamonds surround the coral, their distinctive triangular facets offering a striking contrast to its soft, rounded form. Each diamond, individually hand-cut and unique, catches the light with a gentle, understated sparkle that enhances rather than competes for attention.
The diamonds are claw set above an intricately pierced gallery with a scalloped petal-like motif. The shoulders are lightly raised and lead to a solid 9ct yellow gold shank featuring ridged detail.
Coral is an organic material formed by tiny marine organisms known as polyps. Today, coral harvesting is heavily regulated in support of environmental conservation, making antique coral a far more considered and ethical choice. This ring is best suited to someone who appreciates both its beauty and the care it requires. Coral is relatively soft and porous and therefore not intended for everyday wear. To preserve its condition, it should be kept away from harsh chemicals and any knocks.
Unless stated otherwise, gem weights and specifications are estimated (assessed in mount).
