Original to c.1870, this Victorian three-stone ring features several exceptional natural, unheated sapphires hailing from the old mines of Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka). The sapphires are cushion cut and have been perfectly matched in colour and clarity. They exhibit a beautiful colour, slightly darker than the classic cornflower blue with a hint of indigo which truly brings these sapphires to life. The pleasingly deep proportions and remarkable clarity of these stones have an almost liquid effect, as subtle nuances in shades and tones shimmer from within each sapphire as the ring is turned under light.
These sapphires have been assessed by GCS and are certified natural, unheated and with a combined weight of 6.80ct. Interspersed between each sapphire lies tiny rose-cut diamonds which are typically seen in Victorian rings of this style. The stones are all claw-set in an open-back setting, above an intricately and ornately carved gallery which features refined scrolling motifs and volutes. This style of ring is known as a carved half-hoop and they were particularly popular during the Victorian era, they were designed to reflect the grandeur, richness and opulence of the time - and this example certainly reflects all three!
