Original to c.1920, this Art Deco ring is set to centre with a square-shaped emerald cut natural teal-blue sapphire of approximately 1.51ct. It is in an open-back claw setting and surrounded by a rounded square border of twelve round single-cut diamonds all grain set in platinum with a millgerain edge border. The gallery has a structured openwork linear design that is very typical of the Art Deco style and sits nice and low in profile, making it extremely comfortable and practical to wear. The shoulders are very lightly raised with delicate chenier detail and lead to a solid 18ct yellow gold shank.
The natural sapphire has a pleasing inky teal-blue colour, rich and atmospheric, with a good clarity characteristic of well-cut emerald stones. The ring’s geometric composition reflects the emerging aesthetic of the early Art Deco movement, which was just beginning to take hold at the time of its creation. Subtle design cues reveal its position at the intersection of two eras: the refined craftsmanship of the Edwardian period and the bold, structured modernity of the Roaring Twenties. While the outline adopts a confident square form, the gently softened corners lend a sense of elegance and restraint, tempering the geometry. Meanwhile, the 18ct yellow gold shank retains the fluid, understated character of early 20th-century design, completing a piece that beautifully bridges tradition and innovation.
