Listeners who never heard the Shangri-Las will soon learn that the four exclamation points in the title of this compilation are well-deserved. This two-disc collection gathers some of the tough girl-group's best (though not necessarily best-known) singles and b-sides, like the soulful "Train from Kansas City" (covered in recent years by Neko Case) and the blue-eyed R&B song "Sophisticated Boom Boom." For casual fans, there are more hit-dominated compilations that would suffice, but for pop-music historians and serious girl-group fanatics, this will be a fine addition to the canon.
