This book provides an overview of the history, style and use of the powder horn in the everyday lives of early Americans.
While, of necessity, some commercially produced powder horns are pictured, the emphasis is on home made pieces. Such horns, though primitive in construction, were totally serviceable. Simplicity and individuality took the place of highly engraved horns on each side of the year 1800.
They were indispensible, yet so commonplace, that they were taken for granted. However, the truch that comes with proper perspective gives us the opportunity to recognize their contribution.
