A truly unique and rare vintage musical cake stand, likely dating from the 1930s–1950s, featuring a Widdicombe Pottery plate with a delightful illustration of the famous English folk song "Widecombe Fair." This remarkable piece is not just a cake stand but also a musical novelty—when lifted, it plays the song Widecombe Fair, stopping when placed back down, thanks to a built-in music box mechanism in the base.
The plate is beautifully decorated with a traditional folk scene, showing Uncle Tom Cobleigh and his companions on horseback, with lyrics from the song elegantly scripted around the rim. The metal base, shaped in the style of early 20th-century pressed glass cake stands, houses the original wind-up music mechanism, adding an element of charm and entertainment to any table setting.
A rare find, especially with a fully functional music mechanism and an intact ceramic plate. This is a perfect collector’s piece for those who appreciate novelty vintage tableware, musical antiques, or British folk art.

This piece is in very good vintage condition, especially considering its age of nearly 100 years from the 1930s. The ceramic plate is free from chips or cracks, and the illustration remains vibrant and clear. There is some mild crazing, which is typical for vintage pottery of this era, but it does not affect the integrity of the piece. The musical mechanism is in working order, playing the tune Widecombe Fair when lifted. The metal base has some natural patina and ageing, adding to its vintage character.
The base is securely attached with a screw but can be easily removed for washing, making it both a practical and decorative piece.
This is an exceptionally rare and functional vintage item, making it a true collector’s find.
