We've been looking for a premium mat for workbenches, and eventually decided we can do better on our own. 

So what were we looking for? 

• Size: Some mats only give you a little bit to lay the bottom of the guitar on, others go big enough to lay the whole body down. These weren't enough. We wanted to be able to lay down a full guitar. 
• Durability: You've probably seen the yoga mat material bench mats that are torn and tattered after so many years (or months) of use. Other materials aren't much better. 
• Cleanup: We want to be able to get metal shavings, solder, and other potential finish hazards up, but they have a habit of embedding themselves in those softer materials. 
• Aesthetic: Those old torn up mats don't look good, whether you're a professional tech dealing with customers or you do all of your own work. 
• Put away: The material had to be rollable or foldable for storage. 

For us, leather was the obvious choice. The leather we make these out of a 3-4 oz. leather material, about 2.5mm in thickness, and is of a grade that might have blemishes and so isn't going to be used in most final products. The fact that these are for work, and not a luxury product makes this leather perfect. It is as good as more expensive leathers and while this will cost more upfront than others, we're pretty sure you'll be able to pass this on to your grandchildren. 

We cut these to approximately 34 inches by 16 for all the length and width you'll ever need.
