Original to c.1920, this early Art Deco opal and diamond ring is an absolute dream. I can't tell which I love more, the incredible opal set to centre or the perfectly proportioned diamond-set stepped shoulders! The opal has a lovely oval outline and has been cut en-cabochon to best display its impressive play-of-light. Opal is a gemstone prized for its unique optical effect, seen as the patches of bright, iridescent colour which appear to shift and dance across the stone's surface with every move of the hand.
This particular opal a stunning specimen, displaying every colour of the rainbow; violet, blue, green, yellow, orange and even subtle specks of red when viewed from the right angle. The play-of-colour is very well distributed throughout the stone with little-to-no dull areas. The dominant colours seen are violet, green and a stunning sunset orange which flickers at the edge of the opal. Set in an 18ct white gold rub-over setting finished with delicate millegrain edging, ensuring the opal is safely and securely set and protected when worn.
The shoulders of the ring are formed by stepped rectangular panels, graduating in size and set with old-cut diamonds; grain-set in platinum and bordered by fine millegrain edging. Twelve in total with a combined weight of 0.35ct. The gallery features linear open-work with millegrain edging and sits nice and low on the finger, conforming comfortably for practical wear. The shoulders feature decorative ridge detail that seamlessly flows from the stepped diamond-set panels. To a platinum solid D-shape shank featuring metal hallmarks and a makers mark. A beautifully made ring that is a joy to admire and wear!
