These exclusive Fat Freddy's Drop t-shirts are made by Ben Tippett. Ben made the original t-shirts displayed in the exhibition and used his original design files to recreate these.

In 2005 Fat Freddy’s Drop released their debut studio album, Based on a True Story, a genre-defying record that went straight to number one and became the longest-charting album in Aotearoa history, spending over two years in the Top 40.  

Created through live, improvised jams and road-tested on stages worldwide, the album was recorded in a basement studio in Lyall Bay, Wellington. It captured the spirit of a vibrant, collaborative music scene and marked a turning point in New Zealand’s musical landscape.
