Ajate, the one and only musical afro-groove band that has now established a brilliant status and popularity in Japan and abroad, is now back with its first 7-inch in two years. This release features two big tunes that are already well-known in their live performances. The A-side "maideso," with its spacy intro by Jate (bamboo balafon), is a trippy number with a looping cosmic rhythm section, intertwining bamboo flutes, and acidic noisy guitars, mixed with an eerie chorus by word play. The chorus is a playful play on words, and it is the quintessential Ajate number. The hooky, polyrhythmic jarte tone of the B-side, "Izuchi he mo," which is a big hit at live performances, is an Ajate-style Afrobeat meets Gnawa song that leads into a trance with its swinging guitar phrases and groovy bass line. Vocalist Peppermint U speaks gently but passionately about the idea that dance is resistance. The illustrations were designed by Magnum, bassist of the Afrobeat band Stepak-Takraw (= Sepatakraw), with whom he became friends during their two live tours in Aichi in 2022, and a lyric card is included.
