Rachel Portman (1960-) was born in Hazlemere, Surrey, England, UK, and began composing at the age of 14. She studied music at Worcester College, Oxford University, and has worked on Mike Leigh's "July, A Fourth Day" and Jim Henson's "Storyteller" series He has also gained experience in drama music for BBC and Channel 4 films, including "The Life of a Duchess" and "The Duke and Duchess of Wales. He has written over 100 scores for film, television, and theater, including "The Life of a Duchess," "Oliva Twist," "Crisis of America," "Don't Let Me Go," "The Beloved," "The Legend of Bagger Vance," "My Wonderful Life," "Fairy Godmother," and "One Day: A 23 Year Love Story.
