Description:
ReVIOLAtion" is a fusion of the words "revolution" and "viola," and is the title of this album by Kommendarek-Timmendorf, a talented viola player from Poland. Each piece is written for unaccompanied viola, and the tension in this album is pleasant to listen to. Douzhinin, who plays viola at the beginning of the album, was the viola player of the Beethoven String Quartet, which is known for the premiere of Shostakovich's string quartet. Even in this piece, one can sense a heavy atmosphere reminiscent of Shostakovich's works. The work by Weinberg, another friend of Shostakovich, has a unique style that is unexpectedly full of humor. Wuertin's "Homage to Paganini" is a highly technical piece. Pazevich's "Capriccio," as the title implies, is a small piece with a variety of musical ideas. Komendarek-Thymendorf's high technical skill is well demonstrated in this superb performance. Naxos Japan
