Yamashita Kazuhito
Description:
More than 20 years after the amazing Sol complete works (16CDs), guitarist Kazuhito Yamashita made a new recording in 2009. This new recording shows the depth and transformation of his interpretation over the years. A quiet life in Nagasaki, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Listening to the chirping of birds and the sound of insects late at night, the seasons change. In the occasional moments of solitude, he plays on his guitar the pure tunes of Fernando Sor, the greatest guitarist of the 19th century. This CD follows the "Sol Guitar Songs" released in 2011 and the three "Selected Sol Etudes" released in 2017. The CD includes the first of two sets of "Three Social Pieces" and the first and second of four sets of "Six Divertimentos" published during Sol's stay in London (1815-1823). The second set, Op.2, is dedicated to Emanuel Palacio Fajardo, a Venezuelan-born independence activist, and is interesting as a piece of the composer's friendship in his life. <Kazuhito Yamashita (guitar) was born in Nagasaki in 1961, and learned guitar from his father, Toru Yamashita, from the age of eight. He also studied under composer Kojiro Ofune. At the age of 15, he won the Gui National Competition (now the Tokyo International Guitar Competition), and at 16, he won the world's three major international guitar competitions in Ramirez, Alessandria, and Paris, becoming the youngest ever winner in each case. He has released 85 albums on guitar, including his arrangement of "Pictures at an Exhibition" in 1980, which was a great success, and since then he has arranged many major orchestral pieces for guitar, including "The Firebird," "Sierrazato," and "From the New World," as well as "Bach: Suite for Solo Violin, Cello, Flute, and Lute," and "Bach: Suite for Violin, Violin, Flute, and Lute," BWV 995-1013. BWV 995-1013 (5CDs). He also has a vast repertoire of original guitar repertoire, including "Sol: Complete Guitar Works (16CDs)", "Villa-Lobos", and "C. Tedesco", all of which are highly acclaimed for their virtuosic performances. He has given solo recitals in many parts of the world, including the Great Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, the Great Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic in Russia, Teatro Olimpico in Italy, Lincoln Center in New York, and Orchestra Hall in Chicago. As a leading classical musician, he has been frequently invited to perform at major mixed-genre festivals around the world. He has performed with many world-class conductors and orchestras, including L. Slatkin and R. Frühbeck de Burgos. In 2004, he formed "Kazuhito Yamashita Family Quartet Quintet" with his children, and performs worldwide with his eldest daughter (Beniyumi) and second daughter (Aiyo). He also performs as a guitar duo with his eldest daughter (Beniyumi) and second daughter (Aiyo) in many parts of the world. His CD "The Dawn of Japanese Guitar Music" won the Grand Prize at the 1999 Bunka-Cho Arts Festival. Tobu Land System
