Salzburg Festival Live at the Corona Disaster in Reduced SizeIn the summer of 2020, the Salzburg Festival celebrated its centennial with Mozart's "Cosi fan tutte" in an all-new production devised under pandemic conditions. Created in a few weeks by a team led by acclaimed director Christoph Roy and up-and-coming female conductor Joanna Marwitz, the production is a 2 hour and 20 minute version with no intermission, and is a minimalist production with a single white wall that allows the singers' performances and abilities to shine through. The performance is presented in two hours and 20 minutes without intermission. Conductor Joanna Marwitz was born in Germany in 1986, first debuted as a pianist, then began her conducting career in 2006, appearing in opera houses across Europe, including the Erfurt Theater, Frankfurt Opera, and Copenhagen Royal Opera House, and starting in the 2018/2019 season Music Director of the Staatsoper Nuremberg, he has steadily established himself as an up-and-coming conductor. The production was hailed as "the best Mozart in Salzburg for decades" (German newspaper Die Welt). The three female singers in the cast are closely associated with the Erato label.All the singers are praised for their balance, harmony, and dramatic authenticity, and "Mozart's miracle can be heard and experienced in all its subtlety and grace, realized with the utmost theatrical and musical intelligence," praises Markus Hinterhäuser, artistic director of the Salzburg Festival.
