Description:
Exquisite percussion sound effects! Two orchestral works by American composer Stephen Mackey. Two orchestral works by American composer and guitarist Stephen Mackey: "The Beautiful End" dedicated to his mother and "The Fountain of Mnemosyne" based on Greek mythology. A new commission from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Beautiful Passing" for violin and orchestra was written in memory of his experience of caring for his mother who died of esophageal cancer in 2004. As she was dying, she said, "Stephen, don't be sad. I had a wonderful life. Tell everyone that I have reached a beautiful end (death)." Remembering this conversation with his mother, he overcame his grief and wrote this work full of life. The work is about 25 minutes long in a single movement, with percussion (including piano) and solo violin playing throughout, and two very impressive violin cadenzas. The English violinist Anthony Marwood, who specializes in contemporary music, plays beautifully and sometimes wildly. Mnemosyne's Pool - Mnemosyne's Fountain" for orchestra is a five-movement work with a performance time of approximately 42 minutes. Mnemosyne is a goddess who deified memory in Greek mythology. This is Mackie's ambitious work based on the myth that one must find that Mnemoschney spring and drink its waters to escape the oblivion that accompanies reincarnation.
