18th century Italian gilded and hand-carved tabernacle adorned with an 18th century Italian gilt chalice and Sabina Faye Braxton gaufrage fabric. This tabernacle once belonged in a historical, Italian church and the word "tabernacle" means "dwelling place."
The inside contains a gilded and hand-carved Italian chalice fragment artifact which symbolizes the eucharist. The door is lined with the original antique braid and the inside of the tabernacle is lined with Sabrina Faye Braxton antique textile gaufrage velvet. Gaufrage is a technique derived from medieval embossing techniques of dusting embossed velvet in tarnished metals and suffusing the crushed pile with iridescent inks. This is the most elaborate and labor-intensive of techniques, capturing the essence of aging brocades, erosion, and patina.
Together, the ecclesiastical piece creates a historically significant work of art.
