Description:
Olivia Newton-John's first album "If Not For You" from 1971 is now available in a 2-CD deluxe edition with a bonus disc. The album was produced by Bruce Welch, former guitarist for The Shadows and her lover at the time, and John Farrar, a songwriter and producer who was also a Shadows member and "foster parent" of Olivia, who supported her career until the 1980s. The band's "In A Station," Bread's "If," Leslie Duncan's "Love Song" and "Lullaby," Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind," Tom Rush's "No Regrets," and the title track by Bob Dylan, which was cut as a single and reached #7 on the UK charts. Rush's "No Regrets," Kris Kristofferson's "Help Me Make It Through the Night," and "Me and Bobby McGee," and almost the entire album is made up of covers of famous songs from the same era. This is still one of the most popular albums of the year, a fine work that beautifully combines Olivia's lovely high tone voice with the clever arrangements and refreshing country-pop sound by Welch & Farrar. The bonus disc, CD2, contains 17 tracks, including a cover of Jackie DeShannon's debut single "Till You Say You'll Be Mine," which was released on Decca in the U.K., the B-side of the single, another take, and two previously unreleased songs, "Round and Round" and "Game of Love. and 17 other songs in total.
