Description:
This is a collection of songs by the late German Romantic composer Pfitzner. This fifth collection, the conclusion of the series, includes a variety of songs from his mature period in his late 30s to his mature period in his 60s. Pfitzner used texts by poets such as Eichendorff and Busse, and as is typical of Pfitzner, who wrote music in accordance with the content of the poems, a wide variety of songs can be heard here as well. Many of the songs are rather dark and lonely, which seems to express the resignation of the aged Pfitzner. As in the fourth collection, Uwe Schenker-Primus, a baritone from Würzburg, sings the songs. The humorous "New Year's Celebration Circle, 1901," recorded at the end, is a world premiere. The sad melody led by the baritone is transformed into a joyful melody by the female chorus, which sings after it. Naxos Japan
