The Calidre String Quartet, winner of the M-Prize International Chamber Music Competition! A young and talented quartet that has steadily built up an international career! The New York-based Calidre String Quartet began their international career in 2016 by winning the M-Prize International Chamber Music Competition, known for its extremely high prize of $100,000 (the highest in the world for chamber music). They became the first North American ensemble to win the Borletti Buitoni Foundation Prize, were selected as BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists, and received international attention, including the 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant for outstanding young performers! The first in a series of recordings of Beethoven's complete string quartets on the Signum label, this release references the interpretations of the Alban Berg Quartet, Emerson String Quartet, Guarneri String Quartet, and other famous quartets of yesteryear, but also offers a unique interpretation based on current aesthetics and research. The Calidre String Quartet will perform with Anne-Sophie Mutter in a memorial concert for Andre Previn at Carnegie Hall in September 2022, and we look forward to their upcoming Beethoven cycle.
