Smetana (1824-1884)
Description:
Smetana was instrumental in the development of the Czech "National School" and the development of Czech music in the 19th century. He preferred the form of "symphonic poetry" influenced by Berlioz and Liszt, and wrote a number of narrative works in addition to his masterpiece "My Homeland. The three symphonic poems on this album were completed in Sweden, where Smetana stayed when he was in his 30s. At that time, he was at the height of his creative activity, and in a short period of time, he wrote "Richard III" inspired by Shakespeare's play, "Wallenstein's Camp" based on Schiller's play, and "Haakon Jarl," based on the Viking tragedy by the Danish poet Ehrensleher. The book was written in a single sitting. Smetana's talent for clearly depicting dramatic stories is on full display in these works. Naxos Japan
