“This workbook was designed for novice learners at the grade level of Kindergarten and First Grade. However, we believe that no matter how young or old you are, this workbook will be a great fit for you if you are starting Hmong for the first time. Phau Ntawv Hmoob: Hmong Workbook is designed to follow the sequence of New Millennium Academy’s Hmong Language and Culture curriculum and instructional practices. The first half of the book consists of Hmong language and literacy, while the second half consists of thematic topics that are culturally relevant. These lessons teach related vocabulary to the selected topics. All lessons and pages are intended to be used in conjunction with teacher instructions when used in the classroom. However, instructions are given in Hmong and English throughout the workbook to help you navigate what to do. During the creation of this workbook, we have designed the book to allow users to be able to write, color, cut, and tear pages out according to their need and desire. We invite you to engage in this workbook and make the most of what it offers.”

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Khou Vang is currently a Hmong Program Director at New Millennium Academy Charter School in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. She has taught math for thirteen years, coached and mentored teachers, and she has taught Hmong Language and Culture for grades K- 8 for one year. Khou has always had the passion for the Hmong Language and Culture where she learned, studied, and taught the Hmong language through the church for many years. Khou is a wife and mother to a wonderful daughter.

Pazong Vang Mua started teaching in 2019 as a K-8 Hmong Teacher after she graduated from St. Olaf College with a B.A. in English, Chinese, and Ethnic Studies. Pazong is an alum of New Millennium Academy and attributes her love for Hmong language and culture to NMA where she developed a strong sense of identity and the importance thereof. Pazong values growth and hopes to contribute to the growth of the Hmong community and education system. She currently resides in St. Paul, Minnesota with her beloved husband.
