Description:
When one thinks of Mussorgsky's piano music, most people think only of Pictures at an Exhibition. However, Mussorgsky wrote an unexpectedly large number of works for piano during his lifetime. Most of them were published after his death and therefore have not received much publicity. Born into an aristocratic family, Mussorgsky's mother taught him to play the piano from an early age, and he was a great admirer of the works of Liszt and John Field, and studied with many other pianists. The entire work, however, can be contained on two CDs, but each piece has its own character and is filled with rich musical expression, making it an interesting and captivating work that the more one listens to it, the more one's ears are captivated. The slow "Meditation" and "Tears" have a heavy, sad gait reminiscent of "The Old Castle" and "Vidro" from "Pictures at an Exhibition," and the eeriness of "Sorotinsk's Regular Market" is the quintessential Mussorgsky.
