Additional Details: Original fold-out lithograph published in Derrière le Miroir (DLM) No. 160, the legendary Paris art review founded by publisher and gallerist Aimé Maeght, known for producing some of the most important original lithographs of the postwar era. Printed in France during the 1960s, this first edition work was issued as part of the publication exactly as intended, with the original fold lines present. The composition is a striking example of postwar lyrical abstraction, featuring an energetic web of gestural black lines layered over richly textured fields of earthy browns, cream tones, and bursts of red, blue, and green. The dense network of marks creates a rhythmic tension between structure and spontaneity, echoing the improvisational qualities associated with mid-century European abstraction. Like many original lithographs issued through Derrière le Miroir, this work was not conceived as a reproduction but as an authentic artist-created print executed specifically for the publication. DLM remains highly regarded among collectors for its collaborations with many of the leading modern masters of the twentieth century and for the exceptional quality of its printing and paper. The fold-out format gives the image an expansive visual presence and reflects the innovative presentation style that made Derrière le Miroir such an influential publication in the history of modern art publishing. A beautiful example from the pre-digital poster era, where original lithography and fine art printing techniques transformed exhibition publications into collectible works of art in their own right.
