Soundtrack to Summer of Soul (or, When the Revolution Wasn't Televised), a documentary of the legendary festival in the summer of 1969, which was sealed for 50 years. Directed and executive produced by Questlove, the film won the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. Currently nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Music Film. When we hear the words "summer of 1969," the festival that comes to mind is probably Woodstock. This film is the soundtrack of a live performance at the Harlem Cultural Festival held in New York from June to August 1969, the same summer. The mayor of New York City at the time was generous in his support for this major city-wide event, which was held six times every Sunday in Mount Morris Park and was attended by about 300,000 people. The lineup included popular artists as well as legends, and covered a wide range of genres such as soul, gospel, blues, Latin, and funk, symbolic of Harlem's culture.With the exception of a few songs, the overwhelming power and passion of these performances, which have been lying dormant in a warehouse for about 50 years, transcend time and space to heat the souls of those who live in the present. Here is a musical legacy that should be passed down to the next generation.
