For Svetlanov, Debussy was his backstage repertoire, or rather, his treasured specialty. Despite his face, Svetlanov's pursuit of beautiful sound was extraordinary, and he was also a master who sought tranquility and relaxation in his music, which he called the ultimate healing. The beauty of his music is well expressed in "Pastorals. The "Sea" is a dramatic masterpiece, in which the audience swims leisurely, only to be chased by the waves at the end. The "Nocturne" with the Soviet National Symphony Orchestra is not yet available on CD, and the Collins recording with the Philharmonia Orchestra is not tight enough, so this Swedish recording is a welcome addition.
