ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Pazong Vang Mua started teaching in 2019 as a K-8 Hmong Teacher after she graduated from St. Olaf College with a B.A. in English, Chinese, and Ethnic Studies. Pazong is an alum of New Millennium Academy and attributes her love for Hmong language and culture to NMA where she developed a strong sense of identity and the importance thereof. Pazong values growth and hopes to contribute to the growth of the Hmong community and education system. She currently resides in St. Paul, Minnesota with her beloved husband.

New Millennium Academy (NMA) is located in Brooklyn Center, Mni Sota Makoce (Minnesota) where the original stewards of the land are the Dakota people. Established in 2005 as a K–8 charter school, NMA was created to meet the educational needs of the growing Hmong community in the Twin Cities. Today, it serves around 800 students. In 2016, the school moved from Minneapolis to a newly constructed facility in Brooklyn Center. NMA provides a standards-based education enriched with a Hmong language program as a secondary language offering.
